The number of ways of making more money with your blog is astounding. Creating income from your blog depends on the amount of traffic your blog gets. If you have an extremely popular blog then your blog is ideal for affiliate marketing. Traffic for the affiliate is directed to their site using a link of some sort from your website.

An affiliate link from your website may be as simple as a text block or may be a significant block or area set aside for the advertising before the fold. In advertising before the fold is the area at the top of the page or mailer. Visualize a piece of paper folded in a tri-fold fashion whereas the way it is folded you have the top (above the fold), the middle (between the folds) and the bottom (below the folds).

Moving forward, with affiliate marketing almost anyone can promote an affiliates product no matter how popular the website doing the promoting is. The affiliate product owners thought is the more websites the merrier in getting their product promoted. When you are first beginning out in the affiliate marketing world it requires a lot of work in establishing your web presence. I would recommend that you seriously concentrate on promoting your own blog and building your presence by developing your page ranking and how your website shows from search engine results such as Google, Yahoo, Bing and the other popular search sites.

One resource in learning how to do this is the free eBook available from Google titled “Google SEO.” Once you have studied this eBook and implemented what you have learned you will also become familiar with many of the other methods to promote your website or blog.

How do you go about select or find the opportunity for promoting an affiliate product? By far, one of the most popular sites amongst the internet marketing world is ClickBank. It is easy to join and setting up your affiliate account. There are 100′s of thousands of affiliate marketers who use ClickBank and its facilities for promoting their product and this is how you will be paid your commission and enter into your affiliate contract. Another site that comes to mind and is very similar to ClickBank is Commission Junction. These two sites are by no means the only sites which do affiliate marketing. A search with Google will reveal many more Affiliate resources and leads with each and everyone being a great money making opportunity.

Pepperjam is a new pay per click ad network that you may want to consider implementing on some of your web pages or blog pages if you are using Google Adsense. While AdSense can be a great source of income, many internet users report making more money when implementing pay per clicks ads from a different company than Google. Pepperjam would be a great choice. Due to the fact that they are relatively new, they are paying members very nice commissions. Before deciding to switch from the popular Adsense to Pepperjam let’s take a good look at Adsense.

The only downside of switching from ad sense to a different PPC network is that you will not have the diversity of ads. Google ad words, the advertising network that supplies the ads for Adsense, is the most diverse on the Internet because of the sheer amount of advertisers that use Adwords. That means you will get a lot of different ads cutting down how many times a visitor will see the same ad on your web site or blog. That translates into more clicks which means you make more money.

This is why I recommend you only implement Pepperjam pay per click ads on a few pages. I do not recommend completely ditching ad sense. Adsense offers a wide array of ads. My suggestion is to identify your top 5 pages in terms of traffic and page views. Implement Pepperjam ads on those 5 pages and you are likely to see a big boost in revenue from those pages.

If you are interested in finding a new pay per click program altogether besides Google I would recommend Yahoo Publisher Network. Yahoo is the second best to Google in terms of the amount of different ads and Yahoo is known to pay more. I only recommend Yahoo if you want to completely change networks. Few companies can compete with companies as large as Yahoo and Google. That is why they have such a huge number of different ads.

If you can not decide what you want to do you can always do both. Add Yahoo ads to certain pages and add Google ads to certain pages. Also, do not limit your self to ads outside of the text. You can add pay per click ads to the text of your pages. Kontera, which is rising in popularity, is a advertising network similar to ad sense that places pay per click links in the text of your page. When someone clicks on the link you earn just as you would with ad sense. I have implemented this on my web pages and it has paid big dividends. It has not taken away from my Adsense money and has increased my total revenue.

The general rule of thumb in pay per click (PPC) advertising is that you should never spend more money on a ‘click’ than the value per visitor (VPV) derived from the sale of the product or service you’re advertising.

Your value-per-visitor is the result of taking the average of your net profit per sale and multiplying it by the conversion rate (where the conversion rate is the percentage of web visitors that become customers).

Conventional thinking suggests that if your cost per click (CPC) is greater than your value per visitor, you are losing money and need to abort your PPC campaign. But, this is not always so.

Before commencing your PPC campaign, you are well advised to research your target market to discover the purchasing patterns of your customer base. It also pays to observe what your competitors are doing in their PPC efforts.

Once you have a solid understanding of your customer and competitive dynamics – and are clear about your own sales, marketing and business objectives – you’re in a position to establish the aim or aims of your PPC campaign.

For example, is the chief goal of your PPC campaign to build brand awareness, generate leads, or make sales? If the main aim is to build brand awareness or generate leads, for instance, you may be able to afford to pay more per click than is warranted based on your visitor value.

Let’s say your business is such that you typically make the most money on back end sales i.e. products or services you sell to customers after they’ve initially bought from you.

In other words, since you know that the average person who takes advantage of your front end or advertised offer will also purchase plenty of products later, you can afford to lose money on acquiring the initial sale. Indeed, you might calculate that it’s worth paying a cost per click that exceeds your visitor value (i.e. the visitor value based on front-end product sales).

Another clue that you might benefit from paying a seemingly excessive CPC is what your competitors are doing. Are they paying more in clicks than would seem logical? If so, do they have a back end you don’t know about?

Alternatively, if your competitors appear to be paying a CPC below their visitor value, can you seize premium search listings by paying more for your clicks because you know you’ll make up the difference (and more) in back-end sales?

Ultimately, it pays to know your metrics. By understanding these – as well as the buying behavior of your customers and the strategies and tactics of your competitors – you’ll be in a good position to optimize your PPC advertising efforts.

1. Homepage Content

You never get a second chance to make a first impression.Your homepage must be well organized, not cluttered, ease to follow and consumers understand immediately what you sell. An interchangeable homepage is even better because you can change it to depict yearly events such as holidays and/or seasonal occasions. Homepages that feature sales, promotions or product(s) do extremely well. Color and content go hand and hand. Colors have a strong psychological impact on your visitors. Combinations of Red, Black and white are used with many big companies. However, leave as much white space as possible. Also blue and white with red accent works just fine too. Never sell anything that offends or makes consumers uncomfortable. Keep good clean moral content on your website, your business will prosper.

2. Create a Slogan

Something quick, short and simple that becomes synonymous with your business. When visitors click on your website they know what you do right away and your slogan is your promise.

3. Ease of Navigation

Always place navigation links to your products on the left side of the homepage in alphabetical order.

Imagine that you sell a product to other businesses. It could be a physical product that you ship, or perhaps a service like website design. What is your business based on?

Sales, of course, but where do the sales come from? Sales leads, and the more qualified they are, the better your profits will be. Fortunately, Adwords lets you find some of the best qualified leads you’ll find anywhere. It’s like an even more powerful phone book that works faster, filters better, costs less and brings you more sales leads.

What could be better?

The “trick” is to have a well designed lead system which pre-qualifies leads well and reduces your cost per lead. Adwords and some testing will let you create a system like that. It’s easier than you might think when you get down to the details.

Suppose you’re looking for qualified sales leads for your website design service catering to local businesses. You could certainly go door to door to find people who might be interested, and you’ll probably find some. But fully qualified leads in this niche probably should have enough web savvy to find you online. If they can’t, they might end up being customer support nightmares.

So you create a sales lead generation page that will capture a name, email address, phone number, when they’d like to have a site up, and other things you want to know. Once you have the page, you need to test it to make sure it converts well. This is pretty easy as well. Google offers the Website Optimizer tool, which lets you do simple A/B split testing, as well as multivariate testing to refine which page element combinations work best together. It’s easy to set up, and free to use. It’s one of the better tools out there, actually, and certainly top notch for a free tool.

But testing won’t work unless you have visitors. That’s where Adwords comes in.

You’ll need to spend a little time finding keywords you can hit hard and dominate in a relatively short time. Those typically have relatively low competition and a healthy number of monthly searches. When you’ve found several, you can create Adwords ads to target them. Send the targeted traffic to your lead generation page and let testing show you how to improve your performance.

This approach takes a little time, but the reward can be tremendous. Once you have a reasonably well optimized landing page that converts well, you can ramp up your ad spend and send mountains of traffic to the page, for very little cost per click. That will build your business over time, and help you make sure the business you build is based on qualified sales leads that turn into great customers.

2) Adsense Injection WordPress Plugin

Unlike the Adsense Deluxe plugin, the Adsense Injection plugin will insert Adsense codes automatically into every blog post, including older posts.

This is great if your blog already has a lot of existing content, and you don’t want to insert codes manually into all of them. As the name suggests, when you use Adsense Injection you “inject” your Adsense codes automatically and randomly into all previous and future blog posts.

Thus, you will not have to worry about what’s called “ad blindness” as your Adsense blocks will appear in different positions within your content. You can also randomize different ad formats and different alignments to make sure that no two pages have the exact Adsense codes on them.

Unlike the Adsense Deluxe plugin however, the Adsense Injection plugin cannot display other Javascript ads or PHP codes.

3) Adsense Beautifier WordPress Plugin

The Adsense Beautifier plugin just makes your ads prettier. By adding an image on top or next to your Adsense codes automatically, the plugin can help you to achieve a higher CTR (click-through) and ultimately higher Adsense earnings.

The images are generic so you can use them with any type of content. You can also create and upload your own images to be used with the Adsense Beautifier plugin. If you do this however, make sure you check with the Adsense support team as you don’t want to violate any of their terms of service.

4) Adsense Manager WordPress Plugin

Adsense Manager is a WordPress plugin for managing Adsense ads on your blog. It generates code automatically and allows positioning with Widgets.

Incorporating adsense into a WordPress blog is fairly easy since WordPress have the ability to use plugins. With these WordPress plugins for adsense you will be able to position your adsense ads anywhere on your WordPress blog, experiment with them and find what produces the highest adsense earnings.

A lack of enthusiasm for the subject of the blog is the main reason many blogs which are otherwise well thought out, and which have great potential, fail.

4. You Rehash Material That’s Available Elsewhere

Over the past year, everyone has discovered blogging, from major corporations to kids. So aim to project your own ideas, thoughts, experiences and insights into your blog.

If your blog just covers what everyone covers about the subject matter, there’s no reason for people to return to your blog every day.
